The Electronic and Informative Techniques Department, The Radio-Electronic Institute
The Radio-Electronic Institute (REI) is one of the organizational units in the Electronic and Information Technology Department in the Warsaw University of Technology. The mission of the Institute is to provide balanced, harmonious fulfilling three basic trends: the didactic works, research projects and cooperation with the industry.
The Institute’s works may be divided into three basic areas of interests: radio-communication, multimedia technologies and biomedical engineering. The Radio-Electronic Institute has got a very good base for specialists education and for realization of international and domestic projects. The research works are mainly connected with the issues concerning on transferring information by means of the radio waves, especially with the use of digital technology and new computer science technologies.
There are also works connected with the systems and the radio-communicational equipment design and also with the radio emission and reception and radio-communication metrology.
Rich laboratory base enable to provide very wide range of works and to support researches.
The Institute has many didactic laboratories (radio-communication laboratory, multimedia technology laboratory, antenna laboratory, microwaves laboratory) as well as expert laboratories, used for researches works. The Institute also has also anechoic chamber, thanks to which it is possible to investigate antennas properties in the field of frequency and time in the near and the far zone.
The researches provided in the frame of European Projects, MeiN grants, statutory and proper works, and also in the frame of works ordered by the external units: the communication management, the mobile networks operators, the local autonomy.
The Radio-electronic Institute cooperates with public administrative centers, research and development units, universities and industry (Siemens, Fiat, Daimler Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Arris). The Institute’s workers also participate in many projects, co-financed by the European Union funds, especially:
- CODMUCA- the project connected wit systems of fast transmission of the data in the cable networks on the basis of DOCSIS 3.0 specification;
- RESOLUTION- the project connected with designing of reconfigurable systems of mobile communication and localization;
- SAFESPOT- the project connected with designing of intelligent road communication systems;
- ACE2- the network of excellence connected with the newest trends in the antenna technology;
- VISNET, VISNET II- the network of excellence, connected with the development of the newest multimedia technology.
In the PROTEUS Project The Radio- Electronic Institute is responsible for particular architecture elaboration, implementation and validation of the communication sub-system. Its main research tasks are: assurance the efficient communication between operator and robot, communication between operator and Mobile Control Centre, capacitance effective external communication. The works will be connected with the newest solution in multimedia technology (effective equipment implementation of the source coder and mechanisms of the data multiplexation) as well as with the radio-communication issues ( the canal coding, antenna systems, propagation).
The Institute has rich experience in the range of mechanical systems, creation and implementation of the control systems, works on the autonomous mobile robots and manipulators.
The Institute of Theory of Machines and Robots of Warsaw University of Technology took place in the realization of the following projects:
- The elaboration of the communication protocol between the superior industrial computer and the executive configuration used in the control systems of the six-legs
- The elaboration of the communication protocol between the superior industrial computer and the executive constructions used in the systems, which control the six-legs pacing machines, made by the Growth Venture Company in the Singapore;
- The Consultant of the projects mechanical solutions used in the four six-legs pacing machines built in the cooperation with the Nanyang Technological University and the Growth Venture In Singapore;
- Elaboration of the sensor of the cutting forces (Loughborough University of Technology).
The main task which the Institute faces in the PROTEUS project is the cooperation during the elaboration of the system and the sub- system architecture and help during the projecting and built of the mobile robot with the enlarged functionality.
The Institute researches concentrate on the aircrafts, ground vehicles and ships. The researches in the range of the control systems relate to automatic constructions of the aircrafts, rockets and ground vehicles guidance. For the flying objects there are elaborated registration and navigation data processing system. The navigation data comes from many different sensors: the GPS receivers, the inertial systems, the aerodynamic data, the magnetic compass.
Realized projects:
- SEA-AHEAD – Simulation Environment and Advisory System for On-board Help, and Estimation of Manoeuvring Performance During Design;
- ADFCS II – Affordable Digital Fly-By-Wire Flight Control Systems for Small Commercial Aircraft;
- NEFS – New Track Integrated Electrical Single Flap Drive System.
The main task of the Institute during the PROTEUS preparation will be elaboration of the conception and architecture of the simulator, its construction and execution of the final tests.
The Division of Materials Design is one of the major research and didactical centre in the field of the material sciences in Poland.
The Faculty of Materials Design has got very modern, unique apparatus, which helps with the characteristics of the materials structure and properties from atom scale to the macroscope.
In the Institute there is modern equipment: high resolution skanning electron microscope, high resolution analytical electron microscope, atomic forces microscope NanoScope Multimode IIIa, micro X-Ray analyzer, a system for micro- defects detection and plastic deformation localization by the method of the acoustic emission and many other equipment.
Previous achievement of the Institute:
- Elaboration and implementation to the industrial practice the system for monitoring of hydrogen cracks in refinery installations;
- Elaboration of the software for modeling of the processes that happen in modern materials;
- Explanation of the phenomenon of the corrosion of modern bi-phase steels, duplex type with high resistance to the stretching corrosion;
- “Intelligent metallic, ceramic and polymeric materials”- years 2005- 2008.
The works of the Institute in the PROTEUS Project are basically functional researches, system validation and cooperation during the elaboration and sensors integration.
